Fliptop: Random Thoughts

I've always been a fan of rap battles I've seen on YouTube since GrindTime (American Rap Battle Legue even before Fliptop (First Filipino Rap Battle League).

In more than 3 successful years, Fliptop continued to serve as the number 1 icon promoting the hip-hop culture in the Philippines.

Truly, those 3 years years were really excellent years not just for me but for its viewers inside and outside the country.

Recalling my college days, about 2 years ago, Fliptop has saved me from stress-causing thesis proposals—even until the final defense.

During that time, the rap battle league was new and considered as a new phenomenon viral in the new media (internet). Moreover, it is really an interesting topic to study and let the people know about. Aside from the entertainment it provides, promotion of the hip-hop culture is also present.

Moreover, Fliptop’s main objective is to educate people, especially Filipinos to understand what hip-hop is all about, its nature—whether it is good or bad. One thing’s for sure and obvious they take pleasure in what they are doing and what is happening.

Yes, some might say 'I do not have the right to talk about hip-hop culture because I lack knowledge about it and I am not one. Then again, I can answer them saying: through Fliptop, somehow, I've been able to understand what hip-hop is all about. I learned that there are different ways and forms—rap, beat box, graffiti, skate boards, etc—to express and represent the culture.

Even though I am not part of the hip-hop culture, because I am not one, still, I can proudly say that I am a supporter and from supporting I become a learner. And this learning will go on and continue as long the first Filipino rap battle is there.

I support what the Philippines have, and I believe that this is one thing we Filipinos should support and be proud of.

As an individual, I've been a Fliptop fan since day 1. I always will be.
